Hey there!
I’ve always been interested in drawing as a hobby and dabbled in an art school for a year, that said, I’ve never actually tried acrylic so I’m glad I dropped over your site. I love that you recommend many different products that you need to get started. There is something I’m wondering; you mentioned painting on leather, with acrylic, I presume? I didn’t know it’s possible! Will this last for a long time or it might wear down by water, or rain in the long run? I’m thinking it might be a good idea to give a try. 🙂
Thanks for sharing all this!
Cheers,
Anh
Anh,
If you have never worked with acrylics, you’ll be amazed at the differences between acrylic paint and oil paint. I’m curious as to what you did in art school for a year … did you work with oil paint? Acrylic on leather is a very popular craft. In the long run you should have no problem with it lasting if you finish it with a sealer.
Thanks
I agree with you a person does not need to be a great painter to receive many positive benefits from painting, the kit you share seems to have everything someone needs to get started painting.
This kit is a great buy for someone like myself who has an interest in painting, but has not idea what supplies I would really need to get started
Jeffrey, I suspect the world would be a better place if more people stopped worrying about talent and started painting 🙂 Yes, we do have everything you need to get started. There is a list of materials for beginners here, https://acrylicpaintpro.com/getting-started-with-acrylics
Don’t those acrylic paints look amazing. I have been away from my painting for over a year now and have been thinking about opening up my paint cupboard and re-starting my painting again.
I think acrylic paints are ideal for the novice to learn the ropes about colour coordination and technique. Acrylics are so vibrant and I don’t think I will ever use any other medium for my artwork. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to start painting again.
Ches,
Fast-drying acrylic paint has really made painting a unique experience … think of the days when only oil paints were available. Drying time with oil paints seemingly takes forever and they are very expensive paints. I hope you do begin painting again … you have more than a year’s worth of emotions to put down on canvas.
Thanks
Hi there,
Great article, I really enjoyed the reading!
My husband draws portrait of people in black and white, but he always tells me that he would love to start with colors. It would be an excellent idea to buy the acrylic colors for his birthday. Could you please suggest me what would be better to start with for someone who just begins. Acrylic or oil colors? Thank you in advance!
Thanks Daniella!
There are distinct differences between oil paint and acrylic paint. For oil paints to function you need turpentine and other chemicals. Oil paints dry very slowly and require a lot of time. Acrylic paint needs only water for functionality and dries very quickly. Acrylics offer the same vibrant colors and are easier to use. I would definitely recommend acrylics to get your husband started. Here is a very inexpensive starter kit that offers top quality materials … https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EVJ8Q0Q?ie=UTF8
Hi there, I am looking for some good quality acrylic paint tubes for my own artwork, but the product that you recommend on Amazon doesn’t ship to my country. Do you know of any other brands that I can order online and do international shipping?
I am based in the South East Asia. Thank you.
Dear Cathy,
Unfortunately I am unable to help with this problem. I suspect that you might have a better chance by checking out Amazon in Great Britain.
Hello there! I’m really fascinated to your website it is so entertaining and very well designed. I like to pain but most of the times I use spray paint. I remember I used acrylic paint before. I wanted to learn new things about painting and I found your article very informative. I feel that I’m gonna be able to learn acrylic paint fast even though it is different to spray paint. Thank you for sharing this information.
I suspect that we have every kind of paint you may need to get started in your new venture with acrylic painting. We also have a wide variety of spray paints. Thank you got your comment, John.
Is this the same acrylic paint used on nails in nail salons? That would be so awesome to use. I am no artist but I do like painting crafts. How does it handle on pottery? I love creating pottery but have to go to the stores.
How is the drying time? Do you need a klil to dry?
Thank you for commenting! Our nail-art acrylic paint is listed on the top menu under “MISC” or you can access the information here … https://acrylicpaintpro.com/acrylic-nail-art. Our collection of acrylics for pottery can be found here … https://acrylicpaintpro.com/decoart-acrylic-paint. Before you begin painting on clay, see our article about acrylic paint on pottery under “ACRYLIC ARTIST SUPLIES (PAINT)” on the top menu.
Huge difference between oil and acrylic paints. While I agree with the idea that its the artist that matters, not the tools, I will say that having the right tool for the job can be just as important. Just because a master can make a crayola or ball point pen work miracles doesn’t mean those products are just as good as professional grade options and the same applies to paints, a true master painter will be able to get the most out of anything but your average artist will get more out of a better tool in my opinion.
This is a very interesting comment, Kenuetrecht, and I have to agree with you … the tools an artist uses can make a difference in the outcome. That is why we focus only on top quality artist supplies here at Acrylic Paint Pro. Thanks for your thoughts.
I thought painting is not for everyone. It is just for the artist but while I reading this article, it gives me a different perspective in painting. I cannot explain how I love the words: “Painting is about creativity and serenity.” That will always remind me and inspire me maybe one day, I will also be an artist.
Thanks for such a meaningful article.
Good luck, Delroaustria, I hope one day you will treat yourself to the joy of acrylic painting because it is all about creativity and serenity, and it can enrich your existence.
Looks like you have some great resources that I’ll have to check out! I’ve been painting little wooden peg dolls for fun in my spare time and using acrylic paints, they’re really perfect for both the details and the bigger picture. Maybe I’ll have to get into some flat painting soon, too. Thanks for the info!
Lizzie
Good luck, Lizzie! Thanks for visiting Acrylic Paint Pro.
This site is so soothing! I especially enjoyed the video of the pouring wings. I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint serene scenes and it looks like your site offers lessons for any level. I will be sure to pop in from time to time to learn more about painting techniques and supplies.
Thank you, Dawn, We hope to see you again soon! Our website is designed to attract beginners … we like to keep things simple and basic at Acrylic Paint Pro.
This is a very well thought out website. It is also a pretty popular pass time for many people. I have some acrylics and have tried my hand at it but I couldn’t spend a lot of time. I am pretty busy, for an older person that has been retired since 1982. I still hunt and fish and camp. I have an old car and belong to an antique car club. I am trying to set up a website to sell Educational toys for children. Your web store is a very good store and U are a very professional person, I have spent quite a lot of time in here today. You have left no hole, that doesn’t have something of interest in it. Thank U for the chance to view your site. James
Thank you, James, we sincerely appreciate your comment and are glad you enjoyed visiting our website! We have a section on the homepage for folks with limited time … it describes how they too can enjoy painting. Best wishes for your upcoming website!

Hello there!
Painting has been an area of interest for me while growing up but I couldn’t develop on as I was just wanted to go to school but now am done with school and have started painting gradually but I haven’t done painting with Acrylic but only with oil. I must say that am amazed with different styles of painting with Acrylic, they are really lovely and also assures that painting is fun as well to do. It’s also amazing to know that Acrylic painting can stay glued on leather. I will try that as well. Thanks for sharing this. Kudos.
Olalekan, look through the top menu for the details of the acrylic painting possibilities. Thank you for commenting!
This is a great article! I love it. Those acrylic paints look amazing! I have been away from my painting for some time and this will make me go back re-starting my painting.I think acrylic paints are good for the newbies to learn colour coordination and techniques. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to go back. I love drawing and painting as a kid but my dad discouraged me that I can’t make anything out of it and that was how I lost the flare! Anytime I see or hear about drawing and painting I remember my father. With this your article I think I can get back to it. I love. I will love to hear more on this topic so that people like me can come back. Thanks for sharing
It is good that you are now an adult and can make decisions for yourself … we fathers can sometimes be mistaken in our assessments. I hope you now feel free to express yourself artistically. Thanks for the comment.
I have been under a lot of pressure lately and need a good way to relieve my stress. I had been looking into acrylic painting as an option but didn’t know all that I needed or could do with it.
I like to do things that I could make use of instead of just throwing it away. I didn’t know that I could paint on a t-shirt. That seems like a really cool idea to me. I’m glad that you mentioned it because I probably wouldn’t have thought about it.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for commenting, Marlinda.
I always love painting when I am in high schools but I am not the good one. I always admire those who can really paint. I can draw quite fairly but never good at painting. I always ess up the drawing paper with too much water. Do you have any recommendation of acrylic that good for beginners like me which I can use without the need to mix?
Hi JonLYF. thanks for the comment!
I don’t know of any acrylic paint that does not require some amount of mixing, unless you use it straight out of the tube or jar. That can get very expensive. With a little practice, mixing is easy.
Learn how to do it here:

I am very interested in painting, but I have no talent. I have a friend who paints every day and she especially likes to paint landscapes. I think I should recommend your website to her, she must like it very much. You have a lot of products here, you must be an expert in this area. Thank you for this article.
Hi Jax, I’ve enjoyed a fun career as a professional artist.
Please remind yourself that creative painting does not necessarily require talent. The fun and joy of painting is much more important. Thanks for the comment!

I truly agree that painting is a good stress reliever. I don’t have a lot of experience with this type of painting, but I used acrylic paint on the walls in my basement. I used a rag technique to make a tarnished, old Venetian look for my wine room. (me-time ;)). There’s a lot of information on this site.
Thanks for sharing your information.
Hello Melissa, thanks for the good comment.
Painting is painting whether it is on a small canvas, the side of a barn, or in a wine room (I’m jealous!). That special something about the act of painting is always there. If you want a painting or two that you created to hang on your walls go here …

I have always loved art work especially the drawing and painting, personally I thought it’s a talent until I came across this post, I think I can also try it out because I always find it nice when I see other people’s paintings and with I was them, I will have to try the step by step procedure with the Acrylic paint pro, I hope to have more fun as I start my painting interest into action, I really appreciate you for sharing such a wonderful article.
Thank you.
Hi Joy,
Some people just love to paint and don’t give a care what other people think about their work. They simply paint for the sheer joy of it. Professional painting can require talent … amateur painting does not. There is nothing to prove.
These websites make things easy for beginners …

This is a great post. I like painting . That is what I do on my spare time . But information in this post is instructive. First I never knew there were categories of painters. But there is something you say I need more explanation about. Whenever. To paint is to be creative, anyone can become painter, but I would like to know there are not certain requirements before. Does it mean I can just take my paint and my canvas and start painting without any methodology or plan?
Thank you for the comment, Randy!
You asked …
“To paint is to be creative, anyone can become painter, but I would like to know there are not certain requirements before.”
My answer …
If you are intending to be a professional career-painter then there are many requirements needed to be successful — like a knowledge of the history of art, the technology of art, the current trends of art, etc.
If the “spirit” just wants to be creative through painting then the only requirement is to “shut down the mind” and paint from the “heart.” … No criticism, no judgments, no comparisons, just creative fun.
